Aki Yahata Solo Exhibition
by Gallery aM
Location: Gallery aM
Date: 15 Feb - 22 Mar 2014

Gallery aM is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Aki Yahata. Born in 1985, Yahata studied at Tokyo University of Arts. If the world is supposed to be a regular program, he seeks for 'preview' through 'one's action.' As one of ways for this, Yahata uses film to think of the world. His representing exhibitions are 'Journey to the West' (Lalit Kala Akademi, India) in 2012, and 'Reflection' (Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki) in 2010.

In new video work in the exhibition, 'jaPandesal 2013,' the artist in Pierrot costume introduces a bread used as the staple food of Philliphines, Pan de Sal. It is hard to say that the video can be neither fiction nor nonfiction. Certainly, Yahata created the film of the Filipino's reality, using Pan de Sal. The bread is depicted as infinite love served to everyone. The theme that a daily object reflects happiness is very universal. What he wants to tell us through the video work is also such invisible form.
