Artist(s): Ito TARI
Date: 18 Jun - 18 Jun 2011
Artist Ito Tari first set foot in Okinawa in 2007. Here she came to learn of women such as Pe Pongi, a Korean woman sent to the "comfort station"on Tokashiki island during the war and continued to live in Okinawa til her last days, Ito also came to know the existence of countless female victims of sexual crimes perpetrated by members of the American army. In this work she tries to formulate a response to what these women have had to face. If we forget their existence, we also lose a language to connect to the future.
