Sachiko Hasegawa (b. 1982) is a stone sculptor whose works have a unique shape with countless chiseled impressions which run over the surface.
Due to the nature of stone, its carved surfaces retain a rough texture but at the same time gives off a feeling of warmth. Her works appear elegantly as they are carefully and meticulously worked by her hands. Hasegawa's idea of the form is often inspired by architecture or furniture design but the impression you will have is not a singular one. It conjures several di erent images because of its unique and distinctive shapes.
Hasegawa has been using colored stone such as granite in her past works. But now, she is making new works in only white stone- sandstone and limestone, for this forthcoming exhibition. Her current interest is focused on the color “White.” Whenever she rests from making works, there is a white powder dust all over her studio and envelops everything in white. Here, she feels that the true nature of the object can be better clari ed if its color is removed. is phenomenon made her wish to display her new white sculptures in a white space. How do they appear when they are installed in a white geometric room in a gallery? She is looking forward to experiencing the moment and continues making her next piece.
This will be Hasegawa's second solo exhibition at Hino gallery and her first in three years. Hope many of you will come and see the exhibition.
