The new solo exhibition of Nanjo is after two years of the one in 2011. Installation at the previous one, 'heterotopia', was visualized abstruse idea using specific sculpture, which left a strong impression. Specifically, it consists of two 'utopia islands', one is on the floor as it is and the other one is upside-down. A hole behind the island makes a rising scene with emitted water in orange color and this water circulates through two tubes connecting between two islands. This is based on a concept of heterotopia as a paradoxical image contrary to utopia. The audience should see a part of spring water on a shelf, which makes people involve in the art work actively.
For the new exhibition, the artist announces two installation works, 'Fantomes' and 'Hypermnesia', showed in Aurillac, France. Those works more emphasize the audience participation with an interactive program. Thus, three unit artists, Nanjo, computer programmer and sound creator, created them. However, Nanjo make a decision for direction and theme of art work. In those works, Nanjo visualized consideration to 'memory'. It was derived from his grand father's memory and he spreads various facts out. 'Nostalgia' in the past from personal memory transforms into reproduced one in a new experience. The process is a life itself and these works are a good opportunity to look back a memory as affection connecting generation to generation. The art works were made in cooperation with his brother, Kensuke Christophe Nanjo and friend, Nicolas Charbonnier.
