I am not afraid.
by Bambinart Gallery
Location: Bambinart Gallery
Artist(s): Azumi SAKATA
Date: 5 Sep - 23 Sep 2012

Bambinart Gallery is pleased to present "I am not afraid." by Azumi Sakata from September 5, 2012 to September 23, 2012.

What are we afraid of? We are always afraid, not only of death, but of life as well. The world is full of fear towards the unknown and it holds us back to the past, fueling anger and hate.

But what if we get over our fears? I work in an attempt to understand and solve mine.

For example, I use drapes in cloth as a motif to represent the passage of time which brings with it emotional and physical change. Mummies and chrysalises represent eventual death and the longing for immortality.

The undefinable "creatures" I create characterize fear as well as what was left of me after I won against it. Uninhabitable places like underwater or underground are also important motifs in my work. I must face my fears and accept them, not run away from myself, so I eventually reach my real soul which I imagine it to be filled with love. Getting there is not easy, but I can only continue drawing my fears in hope of attaining my goal.
