Time
by Photo Gallery International
Location: Photo Gallery International
Artist(s): Yoshihiko ITO
Date: 18 Feb - 31 Mar 2010

Ito's exhibition “Time" is the fourth work in his “Patrone" series. They are photographed mainly from a fixed-point of observation. Prints are torn into pieces and glued together to reconstruct mosaic images with the fragments. Inspired by traditional Japanese picture scrolls “emaki", with their manifestation of time and space, he is creating his own way of photographic presentation over the past ten years. It is a unique way of expression by Yoshihiko Ito unlike usual collages.

“Long time in the past, long time that may come in future, and the moment at present. I have strange and wonderful feeling with 'moment'“, Ito mentions. He links pieces of ‘moment' and visualize a concept of ‘sequential time' by his unique way of expression. He photographs carp in pond, standing shoebird in zoo, children running on grass, etc., and reconstructs his time in the process of making prints.

Ito mentions, “I spend time observing various things in the sequential world of time and space. There are what changing, what not changing, and what changing but no one can find them. I like to imagine something like that and my imagination is growing and growing in my mind. I think I would like to wind back pieces of records focused on my retina from when I was born to present also pieces of memories forgot already, and would like to place them sequentially on the photographic paper." Ito creates “time" in his photographic works by his continuous consciously to “time".

Around 20 gelatin silver prints are exhibited.
