Takayuki Ogawa was born in 1936. He majored photography at University of Japan. After leaving the literary magazine company in 1965, he set himself up as a freelance photographer in magazines, TV commercials and ads. He had worked with Orson Welles and Jane Birkin, and also helped Designer Kurama Tashiro.
In this exhibition, 'New York is' series which he had taken in New York. These works were taken in 1967-68, and the title 'New York is' was named by Robert Frank who was Okawa's friend and a photographer. Even though Ogawa excluded his subjective feelings from his works, they show his sense of beauty. After he was back to Japan, these works appeared in the 'Camera Daily' magazine, and he got awarded at Japan Photograph Critics Association in 1968.
