AISHO MIURA ARTS is pleased to present Hollis Brown Thornton’ s first solo exhibition in Japan, “Unexplained Mysteries of the Universe” . Thornton born in 1976, America, lives and works in South Carolina of the United States.
Hollis Brown Thornton creates paintings and drawings in the theme of every concept of values transforms in the era and society. We will be able to realize those changes, that is hard to see when one is living in it, when we rethink the origin of the universe, our futuristic view and today's pop culture.
When Thornton uses things that are already outdated like VHS, mirror ball and old private pictures, he turns his present view to the past one and become a device that creates new universal world image. The turtle and the zodiac signs are deconstructed and used not as an ancient non-scientific recognition but as the composition element to express the new perspective of universe. It makes us realize the view to our present world and past world together which is connected to the creation of new image.
