Lucky 7

Aisho Miura Arts is pleased to present Yutokutaishi Akiyama’s second solo exhibition in two years, “Lucky 7”. Akiyama born in 1935, Tokyo. Become recognized nationwide when he announced his candidacy to Tokyo gubernatorial election under the propaganda of “politics to be pop art” in 1975 and 1979.

Akiyama has been influential with his devoted performance works, such as the piece running around town in the Glico costume, arrested by having a ceremony in the nude at the balcony of Kyoto University as a member of “ Coalition for Destroying Expo”. Akiyama is milestone of the political art in contemporary Japanese art.

In this exhibition, Akiyama will show his new performance piece that is unique to one, parodying Tokyo gubernatorial election, and BURIKI sculptures he has been making for years.

In regard to the serious topics evoke in successive periods, Akiyama always brought society and us closer together with his performance. Also his earlier foolish performances seemed like foreseeing and satirize vanity society of today.
