Masumi Kawamura creates works around family themes like “mother and daughter” and communication. For this exhibition she presents still photograph-like images of women on dual screens, along with monologues about their mothers through the voices of third-person women. The personal “mother and daughter” story told through interviews by Kawamura herself comes to the surface as an abstract “mother and daughter” portrait through the process of having it read aloud by a third party, and the attempt is to have this unconsciously stir memories in the viewer as well. The entrance hall to Kawamura's exhibit displays some portraits of pregnant women, an expressive symbol of the beginning of a family.
