Artist(s): Aki YAMAMOTO
Date: 6 Apr - 2 May 2010
Art Front Graphics will be showcasing the work of Aki Yamamoto in an exhibition titled, “ Stepping IN | OUT ”. She expresses the form and shadow of visible things as color on canvas. This will be her second solo exhibition since 2008 spring.
Yamamoto has been noted through Shell Art Award, VOCA, SEIJI TOGO MEMORIAL SOMPO JAPAN MUSEUM OF ART's exhibition, though when we compare her artworks of two different period, from middle of 1990th to 2005 when she was in NY as a researcher for Ministry of Culture and present, we notice that her style might have been changed at some point.
One of the character of her work is strong trace and somehow traditional well balanced composition, however her trace of the line has become slacken and her concern tend to shift rather to color and form in recent years. Thus, her work has become more like a screen to project her neutral memories, and her challenge has become what and how to choose the subject and project on it
In her work, definite outlines of some shapes appear; meanwhile they overlap with other outlines and melt into other shapes. This phenomenon may be similar to our vision and memory system. We chose and lap over the image through visible thing which is the state of “in | out" in a memory's pocket.
In this exhibition, her latest artworks are to be exhibited. Please enjoy her diversion world.
