Yoshinori Niwa holds solo exhibition entitled "Never Trust in People without Contradiction" at 1335MABINI gallery. In addition to his previous works in Eastern Europe since 2004, he will present new video works created during his residency in Manila.
Yoshinori’s solo exhibition features several of his major video installation works since 2004. These works primarily deal with the history of Communism, and the concept of value and exchange through everyday human behaviour in public spaces. They also reflect the artist’s creative disposition of assimilating contradiction in daily life and world history. Accompanying his works made in Eastern Europe and in Japan, Yoshi will also present new videos created during his residency in Manila. As with his previous works, Yoshi surveys current local political conditions and examines the relevancy of historical communist figures such as Mao Zedong in contemporary times, and adds further commentary on the fleeting nature of value brought about by the existing capitalist economy.
