What is it to "experience"
Many Japanese people shared same experience through the Great East Japan Earthquake.
But on the other hand, when I actually went to the deadly afflicted area and saw the catastrophic scenery, I felt that it was not a place for those who did not experience the same catastrophe to visit and to have a look.
Also, one of the exhibiting artist told me how it was interesting to see that some people who went to anti-nuclear power strikes or volunteering at the afflicted area got angry when the artist who didn't actually go to those event tried to talk about what actions artists can take regarding the 3.11 disaster.
I feel that "a experience" has become kind of a indicator that creates boundaries among people who experienced it, by crossing lines through the amount, density or the size of " the experience", instead of making them into one.
That being said, I'd like to think of the 3.11 disaster as one big experience.
In this exhibition, through the works created after the 3.11 by 12 young promising artists , we will see how they crossed their lines across their experiences.
By doing so, a vaguely shared state of consciousness toward "yesterday experience" among people might become clearer.
