Text by the artists:
The title of the exhibition “Puzzle and Rumination” represents the method Kano and Takahashi adopt when they make artworks and the way they look at the motif and the object. Kano takes photos of the same object at the same place again and again, and makes three-dimensional artworks that consist of the photos layered like the passage of time, and photo-works that, with humorous sense of collage, free gravity and focus of the photos. Takahashi, on the other hand, put irrelevant images together to produce (or sometimes cancels out) the meaning of individual photo and relations between each of them. His works include video-works in which he shoots repetitive process of a phenomenon and edits images of people relentlessly repeating the same phrase. Both of them carefully observe everyday life, pick up something funny hidden there, and repeat dissolution and construction over and over again to strengthen the object, which altogether lead to their original quality. That’s something like exhilarating dislocation, or rhythmical rumination, or maybe intellectual pleasure you feel when you put together a puzzle.
