Date: 2 Sep - 25 Sep 2011

"We are pleased to announce the opening of the new exhibition at island MEDIUM featuring four artists: DRAWING-the act of drawing lines.

Since when have human beings become human beings? We started to walk on two feet, and learn how to use hands. How are we different from monkeys then? When I think about things like that, I cannot help thinking: maybe we started to serve as humans when we learned to communicate with each other, imagine past, present, and future of others, and try to say something about it.

Just then, “DRAWING” must have played a role as a tool to capture the image of "now" and imagine “now” and future from the past. “DRAWING”, which is the "act" specific to human beings, is a very effective mean. Those ideas lead me to believe that thinking about “DRAWING” links to thinking about human beings.

We have decided to organize this exhibition here at this moment, because we thought it was significant to think about “DRAWING” when we reconsider the way we, human beings, should be and take action in Japan where people experienced the unprecedented disaster.

The four artists featured here are perfect for this exhibition DRAWING, which seeks to go back to the root of human being.

We hope that “DRAWING” inspires you all to think about the way “human beings” should be."
