GALLERY MoMo Ryogoku is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Motoki Hitomi titled Twilight Mimic that will consist of five wooden sculptures and several drawings.
Adding fear and a sense of discomfort to the world surrounding himself, human desire, aspiration, jealousy, affection, and delusion to the gestures and the gaze, the artist has developed the animal motifs into anthropomorphic colored wooden sculptures. In the last solo exhibition, he challenged to make human sculpture and succeeded in opening a new window.
In this exhibition, Hitomi will show his latest works that have a dual nature and focus on the theme of “mimicry”: the elements of humor, melancholy and vitality. The artist attempts to distance the artist its-self from the works with newfound awareness of narrativity, and express the fantasy world as if reality is reversed.
Motoki Hitomi was born in1985 in Shimane, Japan and completed his M.F.A. Sculpture course at Faculty of Fine arts, Tokyo University of Arts. In 2008, he was awarded the Mitsubishi Estate Prize at the Geidai Arts in Marunouchi while he was a student. This is his third solo exhibition at GALLERY MoMo since 2009.
