Floating on the Wind
by Gallery MoMo (Ryogoku)
Location: Gallery MoMo (Ryogoku)
Artist(s): Sachiho IKEDA
Date: 7 Jun - 28 Jun 2014

GALLERY MoMo Ryogoku is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Sachiho Ikeda titled Floating on the Wind.

In Japan, the word of wind is traditionally used for the symbol of the thing we cannot see. Choosing the word, wind as her theme for the exhibition, Ikeda attempt to express the invisible things she felt in her ordinary days.

Constantly, Ikeda describes landscapes like Japanese gardens and parks with the use of gentle and soft colors, which invites the viewers to the peaceful and healing world. Employing the artificial natures like parks as her motifs, Ikeda succeed in giving her paintings the presence of people with warm atmosphere even though people do not usually appear or are described very small in her paintings.

Keeping the use of color, the latest works of Ikeda seem to imply the change of her eye to others. The people in her paintings used to appear as objects, so it seems that people do not have their will or thoughts. Through the visiting to the north Japan after the large earthquake on 2011 and the opportunities to see many people, Ikeda experienced to build deeper relationships by opening up her mind and share the small happiness in everyday life with them.

Sachiho Ikeda was born 1986 in Tokyo and graduated from Musashino University of Arts in 2006. The artist has been selected for Shell Art Award 2010 and Tokyo Wander Wall 2011 and showed in the group exhibition at GEISAI 11 and GEISAI Museum. This is her third solo exhibition at GALLERY MoMo.
