Summer Gruop Show : Individual Creations
by Gallery MoMo (Ryogoku)
Location: Gallery MoMo Projects (Roppongi)
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 20 Jul - 10 Aug 2013

GALLERY MoMo Ryogoku is pleased to present a group exhibition titled All That Is Solid Melts Into Air: From Interactive To Interpassive curated by Koichiro Osaka. The show features three artists seeking to depart from ideas of collective amnesia, through strategies of mediation, delegation and intercession. Their practices act as an intermediate agent in dealing broadly with issues of ethical and historical sensitivities.

The origin of the exhibition stems from an on-going discussion on the role of social engagement in art, and reflects the impact of the avant-garde movement in post-war on today’s artists. The exhibited work has resonances with ideas of interactivity which emerged in the 1960s, yet unlike their predecessors, the artists do not necessarily privilege direct physical involvement with the audience. Instead, they arbitrate an interrogation through objects, everyday sceneries and a form of appropriation that often embraces conflict and friction: the ‘interpassive.’

The exhibition interprets the artistic gesture as the point where the power of ‘interpassivity’ gradually becomes a dominant influence. Underlining this transition is the mode of communication from interactive to interpassive – a growing characteristic of the generation today.

The exhibition comprises artworks by three artists: Kounosuke Kawakami (b.1979), Akiko Takizawa (b.1971), Kentaro Yamada (b.1978), in various media including video, photography and installation.

All That Is Solid Melts Into Air: From Interactive To Interpassive is participated by the artists born in 1970s, to coincide with the group exhibition Closed Association at GALLERY MoMo Projects presented by the younger generation born in 1980s and 90s.
