Impermanence
by Gallery MoMo (Ryogoku)
Location: Gallery MoMo (Ryogoku)
Artist(s): Eisuke SATO
Date: 23 Feb - 23 Mar 2013

Since the last exhibition at the gallery in 2009, the situation of Sato has changed. He has had his own family and questioned the reason for the existence of himself in his daily life. Seeing his children who are growing up quickly and his parents who are approaching of old age, he cannot help being awake of his own age and death. The conscious of death and age are universal problems for many people. It's even less of a surprise that they strongly feel the fear of death if they have children who need their helps. After their children became independent and do not need help from them, their worries would shift from their children to themselves. Fears are always around you, but the fears are different in character by the moment. Sato accepts the fears and reflects it in his paintings.

The fifth solo exhibition of Eisuke Sato is titled Impermanence. The word references one of essential truth in Buddhism, which everything exists in the world certainly change both in shape and in essence. This doctrine is now what Sato feels very close to as an attitude toward life, and He understands that a belief of Buddhism is ingrained to his subconscious mind as he grew up in Japan even though he is not a devout Buddhist.

Eisuke Sato was born in Oita, Japan in 1973 and received his MFA from American University in 2001. He won the Liquitex prize at GEISHAI #4 in 2002 and exhibited in 2003 at ARTIST BY ARTIST. He has worked with the gallery since 2004 and been collected by Takahashi Collection.
