Through his recent series of ‘phrases’, MADSAKI portrays a distinct view towards every- day life. Using words related to incidents surrounding him, he reinterprets and recon- structs the spelling, pronunciation and sound, visual apperances into something differ- ent. Simular to his precursors, the way MADSAKI plays around with images and phrases through his works can not be categorized simply as a slander, but a complex method to cut through social/political issues and easily surpassing what the original word sim- bolize, in an inteligent but humorous way.
In his work entitled “What You See is What You Get” which was roughly written on a found zerox paper, you will notice the phrase “OODLES of DOODLES” which is also the title of his upcoming solo exhibition. This phrase, combined with the title, can easily be taken as his statement for this show, questioning the viewers if they should take what is seen for granted or to be skeptical about the reality before their eyes.
