"Colored texture and textured color -- these are his special concerns which he explores in all their subtleties, producing surprises that delight" ------ Sheila HICKS (textile artist)
Jun Tomita describes his works as P.Kasuri (“P” as in Painted Kasuri and Post Kasuri)
His style P.Kasuri is a result of numerous experiments, imagination full of freedom, and his stance to honestly face his work.
To create the colors, which are essential aspects to his works, Tomita dyes his thread repeatedly, and also adds dye with the usage of brushes.
The intersection of these complex dyed threads, are the aspects which give Tomita’s Kasuri the deep and delicate atmosphere even similar to a painted canvas.
“I consider living, and creating my works, the same thing. My life is a life where beauty exists in both everyday life and work, and these two cannot be divided.”
As the works blend into the lifestyles of the viewer/owner, Tomita continuously aims to create a sympathetic atmosphere through his works with the viewers, where they can feel the same passage of time as when the piece was woven, and the same feeling Tomita feels when confronting nature.
