Zen Garden
by Tobin Ohashi Gallery
Location: ANA Intercontinental Hotel
Artist(s): Jun OGATA, Mario TAUCHI
Date: 1 Feb - 28 Feb 2010

They have a new show of two Japanese artists that is running now at the ANA Intercontinental  Hotel in Akasaka.  It is called "Zen Garden" and they feature the paintings of gallery artists Mario Tauchi and Jun Ogata.

It is encouraged you to go over to the hotel [near Tameike Station on the Ginza Line] and take a look. You will be inspired and affected by the very "Japanese feeling" of these works. The second floor and third floor lobbies of the hotel are filled with art that take their cues from nature and a zen garden.

These are meditative works that  will remind you of the trees, flowers and birds in a Japanese garden. These are signature pieces of both artists. All of these works will bring natural elements and a calm feeling to your home or work environment.

Mario Tauchi, has six paintings on the second floor main lobby near the reception area from his SKY TREE FLOWER SERIES.

Each piece is presented as boxed work of art, with names like  “TREE OF ETHICS” and "TREE OF INTELLIGENCE" AND "TREE OF ETHICS".

Mario Tauchi was born in Saitama, graduated from Temple University in the US, and has been heavily influenced by religious art and the art of the 1960's and these works. He has had shows throughout Europe and Japan.

Jun Ogata graduated from Musashino Art University, studied in NYC and received his MFA from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts.  He has had shows throughout Japan and has represented Japan in overseas exhibitions in Korea.  His work was selected for the Kumamoto Biennalle where he  won one of the top prizes .

Jun has   a large painting on the second floor as well as 5 additional large works on the third floor.  Each piece has a name directly from nature, such as Stage of the Warbler, Japanese Persimmon Yellow and Shadow of the Red Flower.

Why not meet a friend for lunch  or dinner  there? There are excellent restaurants at the hotel. Their buffet is considered one of the best values in Tokyo.]
