Episode V : Takahiro Nagasawa Strikes Back
by eitoeiko
Location: eitoeiko
Artist(s): Takahiro NAGASAWA
Date: 9 Jan - 31 Jan 2015

Takahiro Nagasawa(B.1972, Yamagata) started his series of baseball artworks in 2009. He made a series of etchings of all the games of Tohoku Rakuten Eagles in 2009 and got the 13th TARO award special prize. And then Nagasawa changed medium by years, now the artist completed all the games of Tokyo Yakult Swallows in 2014 by drawing illustlation by pen and color pencils. Five years have passed since he was transferred. This season started at Urasoe Spring camp. Nagasawa was introduced at Out x Deluxe by Fuji TV, NEO Sports by TV Tokyo, Gap-jin by Nihon TV, Yomiuri newapaper, and so on. Also he became a regular host in Swa-ichi with Shofukutei Bebe, and his illustrations were able to see in a monthly magazine Marugoto Swallows.

Takahiro Nagasawa attempts to simulate the rhythm of the life of professional baseball players. Why the artist does it? Because he wants to be a member of the team. So he pretends like a performance artist, as well as he makes illustrations of all the games with details.

Of course the artist is a fun of professional baseball games, but he attempts to participate in every games as a member of the team. Due to that Nagasawa changes a relation between 'to watch' and 'to be watched' like performings of Vito Acconci. And daily illustrations suggests date paintings by On Kawara. At the same time, as a recording project, Nagasawa's artwork looked like a war picture without killing.

Through the unique and ridiculous project, Takahiro Nagasawa aims to combine two different cultures, professional sport and art.
