Since I started working in Aomori, where is apart from Tokyo, my opinion for Japan and '3.11' - massive quakes in 2011- has changed. When I realized contradictory factors in Japan, I was reading 'Hiroshima' by Kainuma Hiroshi and thinking two questions to organize this exhibition.
First question is about reusing war-related words after 3.11 disaster. Why are Japanese people still thinking about the defeated war? Is there the link between two cases?
Second one is related to a battle picture. After 10 years of beginning of Japanese art, why some artist still try to infuse people with the war continuously?
A critical mind about how to find a solution to two connected topics, 3.11 and Japanese art after the war, has been a start for this exhibition. In the exhibition, painting works by Takao Hiyama, who went to the Pacific war as an army and detaine in Siberia and Fushun war criminals management center in China, and artworks which has completed after 3.11 disaster by 5 young artists, who was born in 1980's and have watched 3.11 issues, will be exhibited together. -Yohsuke Takahashi (curator)
