the LiQUiD State
by VT Art Salon
Location: VT Art Salon
Artist(s): CHEN Ching Yuan
Date: 12 Dec 2009 - 9 Jan 2010

Chen Ching-Yuan uses “The Liquid State I” as the subject of his first solo exhibition to express his deep uncertainty of the environment. Being as the Network Generation, the world is filled with fabrication and uncontrolled vacuity in every moment, just like the flowing liquid which causes unpredictable changes all the time.

Chen wants to capture the finer feeling such as “pain” which is no longer strong and clear in the circumstance we live through his works. He transforms “pain” into more crushed and unknown feelings, and this change of constant floating has influenced us to face our land in different attitude.  The expression of freedom has also changed to another subtle relation, an expression that is vague, fading and lack of physicality. Comparing with the bird’s eye view angle which diffuses a mysterious atmosphere, that Chen used to apply on his works, the new works use different ways to depict the flowing time. Not only do his latest paintings interpret state of congealing instant, his new animations lead time and your pulse to move forward with the same frequency.

This project is mainly talking about the matrix has been receiving the pressure and flowing tiny sensibility when facing an uncontrolled giant subject or matter-the bogged down situation(dilemma). Facing slight changes in daily life, Chen stacked, repeated, and analyzed different symbols by the characters of animation’s action and story in order to express the relationship between the artist and the environment he stands, and to metaphor the truth that an escaping individual has confronted.

Chen Ching-Yuan is the winner of 2009 Kaohsiung Awards and two times winner of Outstanding Art Prize, and also the favorable winners of various prizes. Being a versatile new generation artist, he was invited to cooperate with band 1976 and EASY, and designed the album cover inspired by his painting “ALL IS FOR LOVE”.
