Huang together with two other artist, Chiang Chung-lun and Su Yu-Hsien formed the artist group “Wonder Boys”. During 2012 Huang Yen-Ying has been a residency artist in France, Indonesia as well as other places.

Huang Yen-Ying’s solo exhibition in VT Artsalon “Stop right beside god.” Explore the inner self, and reflects on the relationship between the body and consciousness. 'the flow of energy' are his latest series of work, which was also inspired from his experiences of daily life, from the time where he was massaged by a blind masseur who was able to tell, understand and know a person by pressing pressure points with his fingers and hands. The masseur uses pressure points as the basis for understanding a person, just like other people using their own indicators to understand others; the pressure point to the masseur could be the horoscopes which people often consult as a guideline. The work 'Amen' is discussing the action behind donating receipts or money and the expectation of this action. Even though we often have no idea of the final destination of these donation boxes, we still believe through our actions, we can bring something good. The video works featured in the exhibition is the extension of the idea behind'the flow of energy' where we see a priest and a masseur; where the masseur eases the pain of the body, the priest eases the spirit. Photography works in the exhibition is taken during Huang Yen-Ying’s residency in France; the little figures playing in the riverbed is suggestive of the fragility of human and their prayers to god in the mass natural landscape.

“Stop right beside god.” features installation, video, painting and photography works, different to Huang Yen-Ying’s previous more humorous approach in presentation, his recent trips in and out of traditional Chinese medicine clinics, and past experience of growing up in the church, allowed him develop creates further layers of metaphors to comment on the development and social aspect of Taiwan history.
