A Vision Across Boundaries
by VT Art Salon
Location: VT Art Salon
Artist(s): Yojiro IMASAKA, Yijun LIAO, Ahn JUN, TSAO Liangpin
Date: 7 Jul - 4 Aug 2012

“Zongmu” is a mask from the bronze age in Sanxingdui site in Sichuan Province, China. It features over exaggerated and protruding eyes demonstrate that early in history man has emphasis on the visual world. We can only wonder how the view from their eyes, differ from us human; similarly we will always wonder what others see through their eyes, as seeing is subjective to each viewer, and the sight will be overlaid with our own imagination and memories.

A Vision Across Boundaries” feature Tsao Liang-Pin (Taiwan) Liao Yi-Jun (China) Ahn Jun (Korea) and Yojiro Imasaka (Japan). The four artists have completely different culture, experience and environment. Carrying these influences they cross over physical and metaphorical boarders arriving in the US, see the country in their perspective and point of view, a view that is filtered through their own understanding, which is visible in their aesthetic preference and their presentation choice.

The exhibition is a combination of “Sketches of cityscape” by Tsao Liang-Pin and Liao Yi-Jun, and the “Crossing of Space” by Ahn Jun and Yojiro Imasaka; offering two initial path to access the idea of “A Vision Across Boundaries”. Tsao Liang-Pin and Liao Yi-Jun attempt to understand an unfamiliar surrounding from the outsider point of view, and reflect back onto their own self. Although often close to their subject, still choose to observe from a distanced and critical angle. While Ahn Jun and Yojiro Imasaka focused on the exterior and shapes of the cityscape as they capture the drama of fear and reliance. From the limited space saw both the moment devastation as well as aesthetic belief all from a place most different from their own.
