LO Chiao-Ling’s latest works take Hide and Seek as the theme to present a series of experiment images from 2006 -2009 which contain many childhood games. By manipulating the game of Hide and Seek, she tried to find the other self hidden inside the body. In LO Chiao-Ling’s creations, they always have a sense of distance between the role- “I” and the other one-“he/ she”, where “I” accomplished “his/her” motive power to pursuit past; while “he/she” compensated things “I “ had lost or unfinished. “I” and “he/ she” became continually switching masks during different stages of life. Even though sometimes it is too realistic and sometimes it is drowning into fantasy, everything lay, coagulated and repeated, on each fragment of images where a distance that is familiar but yet strange had been made. It may be the perfect way to illustrate the memories of people in reality by choosing this kind of depiction. LO Chiao-Ling’s creations chose either to face the reality or escape it to a dreamy scene where strangely existing on the instant space, and composed another story based on time variations.
Disorderly composing the stories may beyond what the audiences had expected, yet it might be the truth of representing the images and it also revealed the impossibility of manipulating the reality once again, which has reflected the fact that the memories, just like the scene in the real world, are usually dislocated.
