Dots unlimitedly spreading dazzle in extreme. As early as forty years ago Yayoi Kusama has achieved an artistic height unsurpassable in Japanese art field. “The Times” of UK even lists her as one of “The 200 greatest artists of twenty century”. She personally is just the reflection of her nude and blazing art life.

Kusama was born in a wealthy family located in Nagano County, Japan. The fracture of her family caused her usual personality of isolation. About ten years old she began to suffer from visual and auditory hallucinations, “The world I see seems to be separated by a layer of net in pointing dots, and therefore I started to draw these nets of dots…” Kusama said that her fascination to dots and repeated images derived from the physical illness, however such disease eventually binds together with her art creation, accompanying her for the whole life. In Kusama’s view, the Earth is just one of the million dots which form the whole world as cells and molecules. They are signals from the universe with neither height, nor directions, nor beginning and end, nor center and fictions.

Yayoi Kusama’s art creations are classified into many different categories, Feminism, Minimalism, Surrealism, Art Brut, Pop Art, abstract Expressionism, and so on. However she considers herself simply an “obsessional artist”. She said,“One day I was watching the pattern on the red table clothes, and started to search for the same pattern, from the cell, the windows, the walls and every corner of the house, to my body and the universe. During the search, I felt being obliterated, and the infinitely enlarged time and absolute sense of space were spinning me. I became tiny and insignificant. ” While his irregular but brut hallucination became his irreplaceable art symbol, art creating for Kusama is a cure to escape from fears and pains. Therefore the rich diversity of her subject and media utilized is in fact a charming process of self-curing, the unique fascination of Yayoi Kusama.

Yayoi Kusama’s retrospective exhibition 2011 has opened at Centre Georges Pompidou, and continued grandiosely to Tate, Whitney Museum of American Art, and many majestic Japanese Museums, spreading out Kusama’s art attraction flourishingly to the world. Not only in the palaces of art museums, simultaneously, the LV boutiques in Europe, USA, and Asia also install their fashion aesthetic with Kusama’s dazzling dots alternating the fictional and real world.
