I began this project questioning common themes of self-portraits for self-searching to challenge the vast and age-old proposition: "Who am I?". People usually ask themselves this question, but doing so may take them away from the truth because I believe that the self is not found, but created. The creation of one’s self grows one's possibility and leads to a new self, moreover, setting people free from unnecessary self-analysis and/or loss in self-searching. In my self-portrait photography, faces are obscured to avoid audience’s misconception for faces arguably represent individuals and are good sources to reinforce stereotype. Moreover, I apply myself in daily but also extraordinary scenes so that unexpected or also wished-self can be acquired.
I believes that the consciousness to intentional gaps, polite distance, fearless mistakes, or significant meaningless yields to a new self; although the definition of new becomes relatively vague, the concept of new still lead people to enjoyment and contentment.
