"The joint exhibition Yuki Okumura/Chiang Chung-lun: Secret Life ees the two artists using their own bodies and low-tech gadgets to make everyday experiences seem less familiar and offer humorous new perspectives on our daily routines." -- Ho Yi, Taipei Times (2009.06.03)
Last Friday night, the two young artists invited people in Taipei City to take a look of their SECRET LIFE -- a duet exhibition held at Galerie Grand Siecle between 2009/05/29 - 2009/06/28. Raised up in different cultures, both Yuki Okumura and Chiang Chung-Lun show a fascinating similarity in how they play with daily routines and de-familiarize the normal experience. For Yuki Okumura, video makes a perfect way to experience the reality and to twist the reality. He is particularly interested in the correlation between the real happening and the real beings. Unlike Yuki’s third-person-viewpoint to observe the reality, Chiang Chun-Lun employs a more first-person-like touch to assimilate the video into part of his physical body, which allows him to represent the sensed reality vs. the consumptive icons.
The opening party at Galerie Grand Siecle fed all the guests with Taiwanese snacks, Japanese sushi, muisic with strong beat (which was actually extracted from Chiang Chun-Lun's video work), and --most important of all -- the full-of-life atmosphere belonging to a younger generation of artists and art followers. And it is such a passion for life bringing us a brand new understanding in our not-so-boring daily routines!
