The artist's latest series are inspired by the Chinese goldfish breeding history. Goldfish were once highly regarded in Asia because of their metallic colored scales which symbolized good luck and fortune. Therefore, in order to satisfy the owner’s desire, this ends up in a result of an artificial genetic species change: from carp into goldfish.
Through the helpless portraits of the goldfish on the canvases, Huang Zan-Lun also installs LED devices as to represent a laboratory enviornment. Audiences seem to witness all the experimental processes on the goldfish. He tends to reveal the fact that we, as human, in order to satisfy our greed and selfish desires, we ignore the law of nature and conduct an artificial process to alter the genetics of other creatures. Huang Zan-Lun expects audiences to introspect our vanity, at the same time, to remind us if we continue to go against the nature by changing species against their will, this may lead to some unexpected occurrences.
