Wang Mian was born in 1980 in Chongqing, Sichuan Province. Since his years as a fine arts student, his works have stood out from other contemporary sculptures due to the artist's unique style. He modernizes the Chinese legend, inserts contemporary elements, and gives the works a sense of avant-garde impression. His work won the First Prize in the Exhibition of Outstanding Graduation Works Of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Soon after that, he took the Superior Prize at the 6th Nanjing Road Sculpture Exhibition in 2006. His five exhibitions which were held in 2008 were also well acclaimed. On June 6th, 2009, Wang Mian's first solo exhibition in Taiwan, " Legend-25°01'40''N, 121°32'17''E ", will open at the Taipei Asia Art Center. With characters from Journey To The West as its subject, this exhibition will bring new ideas and inspiration out from the familiar legend. And, starting from Taipei Asia Art Center located on the coordinate of 25°01'40''N, 121°32'17''E, the characters will take on a journey across the world.

Wang Mian takes the Chinese legend from his childhood memory, incorporates novel designs, and creates works that ruminate contemporary life. His works travel through time and signal the vanguard of a new era. For instance, in " NEW YORK 40°41'2''N, 74°2'22''W ", the characters walk across a metropolis city, dragging their enormous, towering, and depleted body and carrying loads of luggage and weapons. In " Surfing ", the Monkey King breaks through the storm leading his companions toward the hopeful light. Through his works, we can perceive the social changes and the impact on people. Wang Mian has expressed his observation and reflection through his works, and these experiences portrayed in his works have connected with audiences with different background and nationalities. The exhibition in the Asia Art Center will include a suspended sculpture that is nearly 2 meters tall; it will not only make a visual impact but also take you back to your childhood fantasy!
