Ii Peng has shown in his works during the past few years his interests in modern residential buildings in post-war Taiwan. The creating process of Peng breaks through formality and returns to pure architecture: from elevation and sections of architecture to the materiality of objects. This time in his solo exhibition, Peng extends the past creative context, extracting the image of farmers burning land before plowing. Through the trial of fire on the works, he explores the transformation and revival of aesthetic. As all buildings have to go through the stages of decay, collapse and turn into ashes, the pure aesthetic experience of buildings can thus be extracted after the damage and destruction of their functionality. After the intense creative approach, Peng separates the wheat from the chaff, making his work a mixture out of the reminiscence of scents, materials and lives.
