Taste bud is a cultural nostalgia, particularly for people living abroad in foreign land. It can evoke a personal memory of the past. The “Things That Are Edible‧Jawshing Arthur Liou‧Video Installations,” is presented by resident artist Jawshing as his first solo exhibition in Taiwan, showing the unique culinary culture of Taiwan.
One of the video installations “Round” is created with the cooperation of newlyweds in July. Jawshing placed cameras on the ceiling to capture the entire dynamic aerial view of the interaction between hosts and guests. Additionally, through post-image editing, Jawshing managed to incorporate Orient culinary into the joyful reunion of friends and family. “The insatiable,” is another video installation that will express Jawshing’s playful personality. He used the body shape of a snake, to create a video loop of it twisting while crawling. However, with a more detailed closer look, Jawshing has used the scenery of Taipei’s night market interaction as the skin of the snake.
The word “food” under the artist’s pen is transformed into a landscape. It’s just that the tool is not a pen but the technology of video editing. Imagine a common person eating the normal meal, and now imagine that meal transforming into an unexpected out of this world landscape art. No matter if the audiences are interested in contemporary video installation art, or culinary, they will definitely enjoy the experience.
