In this city, we often feel a kind of sight in trance. We don’t know where to look at. When we are too used to the trans-distant scenes transmitted by the mass media, perhaps in a millisecond of looking back, we will be astonished to realize that we are at a place, where is extremely flat without any unexpected thing. There is no any obstacle on our way to where we want to go. The surface of the place is so bright, transparent, and clean that you even would like to put it into your mouth. Moreover, in this clean and tidy city, it seems like we don’t need the chance for individual incident and memory to be interlaced anymore. If we can assign a proper adjective to it, maybe we can say, what we possess now is a “smooth city” which has been hung up swaying.
Cities today are keen on making the “nuclear explosion-scale” abstract statistic figures to meet the goal of politic, economic, culture, happiness, and even the cross-boundary sight-seeing propagandas. To meet the requirements smoothly, the space in the city and the human body are often institutionalized, systemized into a measurable standard. Being in the same apparatus, how can insignificant individuals be able to launch personal sensation? Do we still have chance to narrate our own experiences and stories?
Here we gathered several artists who simultaneously set their views on the modern metropolis. They attempted to pull back the perspective of viewing the city, from the vague long takes, to the close-up shots of the artists’ personal experiences. By doing so, they would like to describe their own perception of the city. The city scene would be presented differently by the combination of plural voices. They also try to provide an imagination to break the stereotype of the city.
