This working period in the gallery space is the first research period for Kobalt Works’ performance project 1001 that will premiere in spring 2010 in Belgium. Starting point of this working period is to create a void, an empty space, a blank page, a physical zero point from which an audience can experience the emergence of events. The title of this first rehearsal session in the TAV gallery space refers to P.O.P. E.R.A. an installation-performance that I previously created. I take the opportunity to revisit the basic idea of P.O.P. E.R.A., to expand and transform it to become the starting point of a new work. In 1001, I am interested in exploring the possibility of a physical experience shifting away from the usually visual perception of dance by omitting any visual information or stimulus. As a starting point I have thus chosen to work in a completely dark space - a no space where nothing exists and yet everything exists as a potential. The choreography of 1001 will then be built on that foundation. I am looking forward to the feedback of the audience, very precious in the development of the project.
