Beauty 2 Square
by Mingshan Art
Location: Mingshan Art
Artist(s): SONG Sheau Ming, LI Yun Wen, Leigh
Date: 20 Nov 2010 - 3 Jan 2011

All of the Beautiful impressions are omnipresent and infinite. In this November, Mingshan Art launched out the double oil Painting exhibition <Beauty 2 Square>, Published the two outstanding native artists Leigh Li-Yun Wen and Sheau Ming Song who to express the elaboration and beliefs of beauty.

Leigh Li-Yun Wen - Call of the Sea
As a Chinese now living in America, Leigh Wen feels the ebb and flow of competing cultures. Through the restless spirits of turmoil and liberty, her works express a passion of water, earth, fire and air, depicting four elemental forces of nature. As the embodiment of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, Leigh Wen carves waves with an artistic mind and embraces the sea with nostalgia to homeland Taiwan. Applying a process of subtraction from darkness to light, Leigh Wen covers the soul of the sea with layers of paint, then carefully carves into the paint with stylus to bring forth the lines as the motif of her works. Each of the intricate lines is implemented under the intertwined colors. The traces flow across the canvas in rhythms and frequencies. Her works embody a dual relationship we encounter, water and fire, closeness and distance, in motion and tranquility, and the sense of things seen and unseen. The art works of Leigh Wen bring out simplicity and harmony existing in the world, allowing us to see deep inside ourselves and out beyond the nature.

Sheau Ming Song - Wavering Gray
Sheau Ming Song successfully creates tensions between “the real” and “the unreal” in an attempt to capture the essence of “representation” and “presentation”. The monochrome of his palette is realistic yet abstract, like the winter in England, a massive gray without boundaries, forming a wandering path across the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. As the theme of the paintings, tapes in various forms conduct a dramatic episode and monologue, expressing a self-esteem hidden in modesty. His art works create a scenario well blended with elegance and humor, from England and America respectively. As the gray mysteriously approaches in a blurred image, poetic transformation between fiction and reality is wavering gradually, so near and yet so far.
