Shou-ning Wang demonstrated her aptitude and interest toward painting in a very early age. When she studied in Taipei First Girls High School, she had her heart set on studying arts. She entered under Yi-Hsiung Chang to study sketch and at the same time studied drawing technique in Shi-Chiao Li’s Studio. In 1952, she entered Department of Arts, Provincial Normal University (now National Taiwan Normal University, Department of Arts). After graduation, she taught and painted. In order to improve on her skills and techniques, she studied portray in Japan and art history in New York.
Aside from studying, Ms. Wang traveled in Taiwan as well as all over the world to find scenes for her drawing. She observed different customs and peoples to enrich her sensitivity and build inner substance. In her decades of painting, she held numerous exhibitions. Her work also appeared in United States, and was selected by the French Salon. Ms. Wang is an iconic figure in contemporary women artists in Taiwan.
