HUNG Tung Lu biography | artworks | events

Science fiction oriented animated computer games are Hung Tung-lu’s favorite subject matter because they depict a future world that is unknown, mysterious and a focus for yearning. However, this yearning also speaks to a certain degree of uncertainty and anxiety about real life. Ultimately, Hung attempts to craft a virtual world with the power to make him feel secure. Having personally witnessed the events of 911 and experienced the pain of close relatives passing, Hung has a profound awareness of the impermanence of life. His works often include depictions of such symbols as Buddha hands, lotus fingers and Tanka, deeply religious semiotics that are an essential part of a virtual digital world that is completely detached from time and space. It is almost as if “Little Red” has been placed in a large transparent capsule, the burdens of joy and sadness that define the mortal world surgically removed.
