The beauty of hieroglyph lies in the rhythm and variation of manipulating brushes. This is one of the most characteristic elements of Oriental art. Not only does it mark the modern artworks of Chinese masters of the 20th century, but it is also regarded as a significant source of inspiration to pursue the essence of contemporary art. Based upon this conception, Oriental Aesthetics-The Lyricism of Chinese Characters, an upcoming exhibition held by Kalos Gallery, attempts to demonstrate the paintings of modern artists, George Chann and Cheung Yee, as well as the contemporary artistic creations which include Ju Jun’s sculptures, Xue Song’s mixed-media painting and the New media art, presented by one of the current promising artists, Yao, Chung-Han. These artists are selected according to the chronological line: from modern to contemporary. In addition, each of them represents the display of varied artistic forms: painting, sculpture and audiovisual installation. Nevertheless, Oriental Aesthetics-The Lyricism of Chinese Characters aims to manifest that they all incorporate the element of Chinese characters or literature into their works of art; such ingenuity may enable them to stand out among their contemporaries. This exhibition also provides a channel through which a strong sense of lyrical beauty and poetry from the works of art of different periods of time can be appreciated.
