Dynasty Gallery is pleased to announce you we will exhibit “Interweaving with Distance: Wu Shang-Yung solo exhibition” during 2014/11/29-2015/01/10, and reception will be held on 2014/12/06 (Sat.). This exciting exhibition will show the emerging artist Wu Shang-Yung’s creation result in these years.

Wu Shang-Yung used more abstract and hyperrealism skill to create his work recently which talking about “essentiality” of things. However, the designatum of “essentiality” is varying with each individual. It’s very interesting with the people who receive plenty information everyday have different interpretations. In Wu’s works, he eliminated the superfluous readable surface features, in order to set the objects return back to their spiritual and essential level. Through the action of composing the painting, Wu reconstructed and combined the actual objects from real-life. From this repetitive and circulative progress of creating art works, the artist tried to investigate, search and open the relation and conversation among objects. It can help the audiences to appreciate paintings without any restriction from the public, tradition and custom understanding. Therefore, it is also in order to introspect and think about the relation between the public, private area and the nature. They all coexist with each other whilst there are some uncertainties. Hope through this experience, people can have the chance to inspect their roles that are playing in the public in the present day.

“Series works Interweaving with Distance have gone beyond the limitations of ink on paper commonly applied medium. Wu Shang-Yung spreads layers of ink washes, calculates the density of black based on white to present uncommon textures and volumes in his paintings. He elaborately draws large chunks with fine brushes, reminding viewers the various fashions of “wrinkling” that has been experimented endlessly by Chinese painters and calligraphers. He successfully transforms the high, deep and level perspective in Chinese landscapes, and meticulously inlays figurative details in the enormous planes of abstract paintings. Such a combination doesn’t result in any clash, instead they create an impression of surrealism.” (Chang Li-Hao, Vitality Rising from Desolation)

Wu Shang-Yung was born in Taipei, 1988. He graduated from Dept. of Painting and Calligraphy Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts in 2011.
