Tezukayama Gallery is excited to announce a solo exhibition of new work from international artists Lucie & Simon.
Lucie & Simon are a French and Franco-German contemporary art duo who have been living and working together in Paris since 2005. They create dream-like photography and video work that questions our view of reality. Their concept is based on the narrow gap between existence and dreams. Most often this is reflected through the theme of solitude, where characters are left only with their thoughts in deserted, dream-like spaces or locations. Through careful use of imagination, composition, light and birds-eye perspective, they create atmospheres that are both arresting in beauty and disturbingly ghostly.
Lucie & Simon were last year selected from about 60 artists at the Jeune Création exhibition in Paris to exhibit their work here in Osaka this year.
Their previous ‘Silent World’ series of photographs and video work, shot in four different countries, over a 5 year period (2009-2012), focus on the solitude of our subconscious. Many are shot in well-known locations such as Madison Square Garden, New York, and Place de l’Opera, Paris, usually bustling with people, now desolate, mysterious, eerie settings in which solitary characters are alone with thought and reflection.
Tezukayama Gallery will exhibit a large-scale projection of their new video work ‘Lucie & Simon: in search of Eternity’, along with several photographic prints from their previous series.
With this brand-new work ‘In search of Eternity’, they explore the terms “eternity/ infinity”, referring to that which has no limit in time and space.
