Landscape
by Tomio Koyama Gallery Kyoto
Location: TKG Editions Kyoto
Artist(s): Takuya YOKOYAMA
Date: 5 Apr - 20 Apr 2013

The characteristic of Takuya Yokoyama’s white pottery made by powder-spraying method is the distinct texture that looks like the plaster on the cracked walls. White engobe that covers unevenly over the unglazed black clay has a rich nuance. His recent series of black iron glaze has both matte and glossy texture, making a unique stream of light. Moreover, he purposely makes the thickness of the work uneven, or adds curves and movements to the line of the rim, which gives warmth and tension to the work at once. As Yokoyama places a high value on the relationship between objects and locations where they are situated, his works present enriched looks as they are used in everyday life.

Concept
The theme of this exhibition is the “landscape” of pottery. Approximately 120 works of both big and small, including bowls, pots, vases and ceramics for daily use will be on view. The exhibition presents the “landscape” in each work where the natural features of earth are reflected, as well as the “landscape” that the wide variety of works create in the exhibition space.
