ART SEASONS begins 2009 with the solo exhibition of Anhui-born artist, Li Shuguang. This is Li Shuguang's first solo exhibition with ART SEASONS. His last solo exhibition was at the end of 2007 at ART SEASONS Singapore.
With a foundation in Chinese ink painting, Li Shuguang's work emphasizes the texture of the canvas and the execution of strokes. The endless advancement of painterly technique and the uplifting of his spirituality are his unceasing endeavors. Some contemporary artists in China see conceptual art as contemporary art. Li Shuguang, however, does not want to create works for the sake of conception, nor does he want to merely develop a sheer set of icons or symbols. His art is an entire set of narrative logic and expressive language and, in it, the senses always take precedence and rationality becomes secondary. At the heart of this lies the skeleton of the Chinese dragon, which sustains the frame of his ethnic spirit. Despite the din and chaos of the contemporary art scene, he instead has chosen to to be a silent walker embarking on a solitary journey.
