Selected Russian Art Show
by Mountain Art Foundation + Frank Lin Art Center
Location: Frank Lin Art Center
Artist(s): Malysh, Nikitsch
Date: 31 Oct - 6 Dec 2009

Russian art is considered as a precious treasure in human culture, especially after the great achievements of literature, music, drama and dance at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the Russian art has come up with many great masters like Kandinsky and Chagall. There was an indissoluble bond between Chinese art and Russian art (Soviet Union art) in the 20th century, culminating in 1950s with China’s arranging training and education in the mode of that of Soviet Union, dispatching students to Soviet Union for study and inviting experts from Soviet Union to make courses on oil painting and sculpture.

Mountain Art Foundation has been devoted to collecting a great number of artworks of Russian artists related to China’s art for years. From the year 2007 to 2008, Frank Lin Art Center in Beijing under Mountain Art Foundation had held several shows of Russian masters, including the impressive Aleksey Gritsai and Tkachov brothers. For this time, we are introducing the artworks of Malysh and Nikitsch: Malysh is an oil painter, pastel artist and watercolor painter, with especially outstanding achievements in watercolor paintings; Nikitsch, with his works considered “modern classics”, wishes to bring infinite rejoicing and delight with strokes of rhythm and colors of elegance. He believes that “the real art is eternal, while the fake is flashy” (by Xi Jingzhi).
