Perpendiculous
by Pékin Fine Arts
Location: Pekin Fine Arts
Artist(s): Colin CHINNERY
Date: 3 Sep - 17 Oct 2011

Colin Chinnery's 2nd solo exhibit at Pékin Fine Arts takes the vertical and horizontal as it's starting point, and from there explores various   relationships between objects, their material, and their orientation. A rough patch of earth (Reliquary) sits in the centre of the space, the objects within occasionally appearing and disappearing. Accompanying this is a series of sculptures titled Moved under which different things are dragged along the gallery floor. In the four corners of the room are a series of objects including Assistants which comprise tightly packed groups of heads with their faces hidden from view. This absurd and enigmatic mise en scène attempts to express a form of urban drama where nothing actually happens, where the physical frame of the exhibition becomes a temporal space where time itself feels pointless. Perpendiculous takes the negation of meaning to be its central doctrine, approximating a form of purpose.
