Gallery Yang at Art Basel Hong Kong 2013
by Gallery Yang
Location: Booth 3D19, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibiton Centre
Artist(s): YAN Bing
Date: 23 May - 26 May 2013

Gallery Yang will be presenting new works from Chinese artist: Yan Bing.

Artist Statement:

My new piece is called Tools. Iron, straw, cotton, and cloth were used in its creation. The work is modeled on rudimentary tools and weapons, With a cloth exterior that evokes Western clothing. As far as I know, tools and farming equipment were the earliest manmade objects to exist, They are extensions of human limbs, and can perform the same actions and tasks. I often see tools and think of people, or see people and think of tools. Perhaps the history of human development is actually just the history of the development of tools, Going on until the boundary between humans and their machines slowly disappears. This work has something of the absurd about it, It's like a theater piece, I just don't know if it's a comedy or a tragedy though.
