FORCE Gallery is delighted to announce the solo exhibition by artist Park SoBin.
Oftentimes, people perceive art of Park SoBin, a Korean female artist, as works of a male artist. Park's creations reflect a shared cultural imagery in East Asia such as the dragon theme. In particular, she depicts images of a dragon and a female figure on a flat surface, where the traces of her passionate sketches and pen lines emphasize the movement of entangled figures in rapid rotations. The female figures in Park's works playfully and intensely engage in sensual motions and consume the whole of the pictorial space as if they are in scene s of tsunami-like disasters. Park's distinctive use of sketch may seem extreme, but she manifests her style in a creative and personal way. Park undertakes her sketch as an action painting and attempts to transcend cultural experiences with compositional limitations. In doing so, Park not only creates a new way of painting, but also connects the relationship between myth and contemporary feminism to rebuild the spirit with a new vision. She absorbs the traditional myth and implies candid sensuality to confidently embody a new wave of Asian female artists.
