Li Tingting Christmas Installation at The Opposite House
by The Art House @The Opposite House
Location: G/F, The Opposite House
Artist(s): LI Tingting
Date: 1 Dec - 31 Dec 2010

RedBox Studio is pleased to introduce a special Christmas holiday installation by a young female ink painter, Li Tingting, at The Opposite House. Li is the recipient of the gold award 2007 by Today Art Museum’s Contemporary Art School Students exhibition and has created a specially commissioned installation of six 10m vertical hanging scrolls featuring a waterfall of feminine festive items in her signature pink ink painting style.

The painting installation reveals her innovative ability to glorify the ordinary in a highlyregarded traditional Chinese style. In the last two years, she has painted a series of highheeled shoes and fashion handbags and delicate flowers on xuan paper—soft and refined paper from ancient times, rendering an ethereal visual experience. Her lyrical interpretation of everyday still life depicts a unique combination of the past and present, a message for her generation today.

“Li Tingting approaches the ink painting medium as a performance of drawing upon tradition to describe the image conscious reality of our daily life, which reflects a new era of artistic language and expression.” Shares Katherine Don, Director of RedBox Studio.

Li Tingting’s rich pink palatte and lyrical compositions provide a new sense of the ink medium, but also reflects a balance between the inherent vitality of youth and fashion, art and design.

“Li’s lantern installation is simple yet stunning in scale and design, visually seductive set against our draping mesh, giving our six storey high atrium a spot of femininity and festive cheer.” Says General Manager Anthony Ross on the commissioned piece.
